Cinema: "Heroine" in Ilanz

Floria, a nurse, works with passion and professionalism in the surgical department of a cantonal hospital. With her, every move is perfect, she has an open ear for the patients even in stressful situations and is immediately on the spot in an emergency - ideally. But in the harsh reality of their hard-to-calculate everyday life, things often look different. When she starts her late shift that day, a colleague is also absent from the fully occupied, understaffed ward. Despite all the hustle and bustle, Floria cares for a seriously ill young mother and an old man who is desperately waiting for his diagnosis, just as caringly and routinely as a private patient with all his extra wishes. But as the night progresses, their work becomes more and more a race against time.

With her new cinema project, Petra Volpe takes up a highly topical topic: the worsening shortage of qualified nurses in Switzerland and worldwide. To accompany the great Leonie Benesch as Floria through her shift means to experience directly and breathlessly how she counters the strains of a chronically overloaded system with an almost unbelievable strength and empathy. Gripping, humanistic and with respectful lightness, "Heldin" is a tribute to an underestimated professional group and shows how important good care in the event of illness is for all of us
