In 1979, two people who seem to have nothing in common meet on an Italian prison island: Luisa, a mountain farmer who raises her five children alone because her husband couldn't control his temper, and Paolo, a former teacher who still doesn't understand how his only son could become a terrorist. Both have come to visit their relatives. Luisa has brought her husband ravioli so that he can distribute them among the fellow prisoners. Paolo hopes to re-establish a relationship with his son at all. But the reunion is disappointing and humiliating for both of them. An approaching storm forces them to stay on the island, and so they start talking. However, they will only become aware of the significance of this encounter many years later ...
