Supernormal

A normal family visits a normal museum on a normal Sunday afternoon. On their journey of discovery, the family members get into reflections with the exhibits. By the time the parents leave this place again – without the children – the family outing has turned into a very extraordinary Sunday night. Not only for the family itself, but also for the employee of a security service.

Founded in 2003, the dance theatre group Kumpane from Schaffhausen is known for its idiosyncratic children's dance pieces and pieces for the whole family, among other things. Verbal language and body language form their own combinations. In her production "Supernormal", being normal is questioned and ways are sought to turn weaknesses into strengths. On stage, urgent questions are negotiated, such as: Who actually determines what is considered normal? What happens when different conceptions of normality collide? And what if something goes beyond the normal? For example, when we are attributed superpowers or attest to ourselves – seriously or ironically? What cross-border actions do such superpowers inspire us to take, and what do we burden ourselves with them?

With dance and text, Kumpane tells of being locked in, exclusion and liberation in "Supernormal", touching on issues such as bullying and being an outsider, but also compulsive acts and being a shadow child.
