Village tour of Lantsch, St. Cassian and Tschividains

Description
St Cassian's Church: first mentioned in 1405, re-consecrated in 1513 after late Gothic reconstruction. Opposite the church is the residential and barn building of the former dairy. To the west of the cantonal road, approx. 30 metres from the site of the current chapel, the foundation walls of two churches and 24 burial grounds were discovered (early medieval 6th and 7th centuries). Presumably predecessor churches dedicated to St Stephen. Marked with stone slabs in the grass near the wooden cross. Caltgera da Tschividains: The building materials available at the time were used to construct the settlement of Tschividains: Wood, stone, sand and burnt limestone. The limestone was burnt in a lime kiln at a temperature of between 850 and 1000 degrees Celsius for several days. Maiensässsiedlung Tschividains: The settlement is located in the municipality of Lantsch/Lenz. It comprises 17 historic Maiensäss buildings, all of which are now mainly used for recreational purposes. With the creation of the Tschividains special zone, the municipality has created a forward-looking, legally binding and sustainable overall solution that allows the regulated and appropriate expansion and retention of the historic construction of the buildings. We visit two buildings in an idyllic location.
