Description

In the village of Soazza you can admire the harmonious townscape, the Capuchin hospice, the church of San Martino and several buildings from the 19th century. Admire the 19th century. From Soazza, an educational trail leads to the natural, landscape and cultural aspects of the area, in particular the cultivation of chestnuts. Continue to the imposing ruins of the Castle of Mesocco, a Renaissance fortress demolished in the 16th century, and the Church of Santa Maria del Castello, which houses an extraordinary cycle of frescoes dating back to the 15th century. the first traces of human presence in the region date back almost 10,000 years. In Mesocco the real alpine part of the route begins: the path leads steeply up to Pian San Giacomo, passing the old roads again and again. After Pian San Giacomo, the route runs almost exclusively along the ancient mule track, the "strada francesca", through woods and alpine pastures overlooked by majestic peaks, to reach the enchanting basin of San Bernardino with its holiday village.
