Description

In the eastern part of the Engadine village of Guarda, an alpine trail climbs towards Val Tuoi. After overcoming the first altitude step over open terrain, the trail branches off to the right in Clüs. The trail continues through quiet forests to Alp Sura. Alp Sura lies above the timberline, at the foot of Piz Cotschen. It is worth taking a break here, if only for the view of the Engadine mountains: Piz Buin towers in the north, Piz Macun on the other side, and far below the Inn meanders through the Engadine valley.

Due to the alpine dangers, it is not advisable to advance further into the valley without a mountain guide. The descent first leads along the alpine road. After the first prominent left-hand bend, the trail continues on the old path to Perlas and across the clearing. Through loose forest you reach Clüs again and then the road to Guarda.

Geheimtipp

To round off the tour, it is advisable to plan a little more time in the Engadine village. Guarda is famous for its picturesque village square and its splendid sgraffiti-adorned houses. One of them inspired Alois Carigiet when he drew Schellen-Ursli's home. The well-known story about the tradition "Chalandamarz" is set in the Lower Engadine village.
