Val di Fez

A variation to make the classic excursion in Val di Fex, one of the most famous valleys in the Engadine, more interesting.

The difference in altitude, although small, doubles compared to a standard excursion, but it is gained in the variability of the landscapes and in a very satisfying view of Sils and the Engadine lakes.

Description

From Sils, near the carriage station, go up the asphalt road behind the hotel or reach the lake and climb following the signs for Val di Fex.

In any case, you find yourself in the woods, there are various paths but the signs for Val di Fex are quite clear. Pass a couple of crossroads and continue straight on a beautiful path in the woods, halfway up the hillside.

The path passes over the villages of the valley and comes out on the mule track that leads to an elevated hut where you can have lunch if you want.

Continue from the hut along the path that takes us back to the valley, always proceeding southwards, until you meet the mule track at the bottom of the valley. We go up a couple of hairpin bends and we are in the final part of the valley.

We continue slightly downhill to the Selvas hut.

The return takes place along the mule track at the bottom of the valley, if you want, once you reach the Hotel Fex you can take the path that climbs to the right and take the panoramic path as I did.

The path climbs slightly up the side of the valley, offering a different view of the alpine pastures.

We reach a fork, we take a left downhill towards Sils. The path is now very scenic, with a view of the lakes and passes right under a superb cliff, before reaching the Vanchera alp, from here we turn right to Sils and enter the forest.

We ignore the detours that go up and following the signs we take the descent that takes us back to the starting point.
