Description
We leave Bad Ragaz on the Valenserstrasse and hike on the slightly ascending natural road through the forest to Padaduris. On the former "Geissenweg" we reach the covered wooden bridge and after a few minutes the Cholgrueb, where large forests were cut down and processed for charcoal around 1850. The square with the cross and the fountain invites you to take a short break.
Still in the forest, we continue on to the Herrenboden plain with many rare plants and up to the Almeiliwald, where we enjoy the magnificent view of the Rhine valley and the surrounding mountains. After the Haldenberg meadow, we follow the brown wooden signposts downhill on the "Vils Adolf Weg" to the Saartobel, which we cross on two bridges. The impressive sight of the waterfall is not easily forgotten.
We continue downhill on nature trails and roads to the Narrenberg. Above the small reservoir there are enough places to sit down and take a break. Through beech forest, over meadows, past old stables, we reach the village of Vilters, which was destroyed by a village fire on 22 April 1800. Passing the church on the right, we walk to Rosengasse and via Crestis to Saarfall. Along the edge of the forest we come to a small nature reserve, then we walk past the airfield and the Büel castle back to Bad Ragaz.
