The hike to the Chamanna da Boval (Boval hut) starts near Morteratsch train station. There are plenty of parking spaces available. The first part of the hike takes us through a beautiful forest, where we immediately gain the first few meters in altitude. The forest gradually thins out and we catch the first glimpses of the Morteratsch glacier and the mountains behind it, such as Piz Palü (3899m) and Bellavista (3921m). The trail is beautifully laid out and not too technically demanding. The closer we get to the Chamanna da Boval, the better the view of the mountain panorama becomes. Shortly before reaching the hut, the path becomes a little steeper and leads through a slightly exposed passage. However, the path here is sufficiently wide and very well secured with ropes. However, you should bring a certain head for heights with you. The view from the hut is fantastic. It is worth climbing a little further up from the hut to marvel at the mountain panorama. You then return along the same path with a view of Val Morteratsch.

Safety and behavioral information

  • Mountain hiking is not a walk in the park. Surefootedness, no fear of heights and a good level of fitness are prerequisites for safe mountain hiking. More information at www.nps.gov/articles/hiking-safety.htm
  • Plan your hike carefully and inform yourself in advance about the current trail conditions, any snow fields, technically challenging passages, the weather, and alternative routes in case you have to turn around. Consider carefully if your hiking skills are sufficient for the chosen route.
  • Hiking boots with a good tread, enough to eat and drink, protection from sun and rain, offline maps as well as a comprehensive emergency kit belong to every hike.
  • Leave no trace: don't leave any traces in nature: take your trash back with you, don't pick flowers and stay on the trail. www.lnt.org
  • Respect the Wildlife: Do not feed or touch any animals and keep enough distance.
