Circular hike in the footsteps of Schellen-Ursli

The children's story "Schellen-Ursli" was written in Guarda and is also set here. The circular hike leads from Guarda via Bos-cha to Ardez and offers again and again a wide view over Ardez towards Tarasp with the castle in front of the mighty Lower Engadine Dolomites. On the other side of the valley, Sur En d'Ardez is already easy to recognize. This is where the tour leads after crossing the Inn below Ardez. In Sur En d'Ardez in the winter of 2014/15, most of the shots for the feature film "Schellen-Ursli" were shot. Even though the film sets have now disappeared and given way to the original villagescape, Schellen-Ursli fans in Sur En immediately recognize the Engadine village from the film. At the western end of Sur En, the tour leads alternately through the forest and over clearings to below Giarsun, where the Inn is crossed again. Several scenes of the film were also shot in Giarsun. Thus, the church served as the backdrop for a central scene of the film. After visiting the church, you can choose to walk up to Guarda, or take the post bus back to the starting point of the tour from the train station.

"High up in the mountains, far from here" is the vague description of the place in the children's book Schellen-Ursli. The circular walk starts right here, in Guarda. The birthplace of the history of Schellen-Ursli is idyllically situated on a sun-drenched terrace far above the Inn at around 1650 m above sea level in the middle of the Lower Engadine mountains. This is where the author Selina Chönz lived, where the illustrator Alois Carigiet spent his holidays and was inspired by the drawings of the famous children's book, over 60 years ago. A bit more demanding but also very attractive is the hike over the Lai Raduond to the Chamanna Cler. It leads to the most important locations of the summer scenes from the movie Schellen-Ursli. 

From Guarda it always goes eastwards towards Bos-cha. While in the background the rugged walls of the Lower Engadine Dolomites stand out, on the left above Bos-cha you can see the hill of Munt d'Ardez and Alp Murtera, where the summer scenes of the movie were filmed. The tour leads from Bos-cha directly to the next village Ardez at the foot of the castle hill of Steinsberg. In the distance you can see the majestic Tarasp Castle in front of the peaks Piz Ajüz, Piz Lischana, Piz San Jon and the Pisoc group.

Ardez is crossed directly to soon cross the Inn at the bottom of the valley. Initially shady, a longer ascent to Sur En d'Ardez follows. Here you can enjoy on the one hand the idyllic village, which acted as the most important filming location for the film, on the other hand the panoramic view from Guarda via Bos-cha to Ardez.

At the western end of the village, the tour continues alternately over clearings and through the forest to opposite or below Giarsun. Across the bridge we go to this hamlet of Guarda, where the church scenes were filmed. The church is open and invites you to take a short break before tackling the last steep climb from Giarsun to Guarda. Alternatively, you can just continue to the train station and from there take the Postbus up to Guarda.
