Description

The starting point of this tour is Zernez in the Lower Engadine, which can be reached from Davos in about 45 minutes. From here, the route in Val dal Spöl leads up to the Ofen Pass at 2149 m above sea level.M. Then follows the descent through the Münstertal, past small mountain villages to Santa Maria (1375 m above sea level.M), from where the challenging ascent to the Umbrail Pass begins. Over narrow serpentines, the road leads to the highest road pass in Switzerland at 2501 m above sea level.M. After crossing the border into Italy, another ascent follows the Stelvio Pass, with an altitude of 2757 m Italy's highest mountain pass. The Giro d'Italia has already led up here several times, which is why a monument to the five-time Giro winner Fausto Coppi was erected at the top of the pass. The ascent is followed by a spectacular descent via Trafoi to Glurns, from where the route climbs again to the Ofenpass, before the descent to Zernez rewards for the hardships.
