Description

This stage involves most of the altitude meters to be covered. The route starts in Fatschél and leads over pasture areas to Pagig. After Pagig, the path passes a campfire site of the "Schweizer Familie," which also includes a playground. Continues through the Clasaurer Tobel across lush mowed meadows to Castiel. Castiel was settled surprisingly early. Various prehistoric settlement phases and Roman settlement remains have been identified on the hilltop Carschlingg above the church. Across the Castiel bridge, you hike up to Calfreisen. This section passes the Bernegg castle ruins, the landmark of Calfreisen. The small, peaceful village of Calfreisen also has a beautiful village centre. There are numerous old wooden houses built closely together and carefull maintained and renovated. The route continues to Maladers and from there to Chur along the old Arosa road with historic walls along the way.

Hidden Gem

The Bernegg castle ruins in Calfreisen are considered the landmark of the village. When visiting the medieval hill castle, embark on a journey through time and surely discover some hidden treasures. For food and drink: the Pasunna restaurant in Castiel as well as the Gassa-Beizli in Calfreisen. Farm shops offer local products of high quality.
