Description
A challenge in front of a dream backdrop: two passes beyond the 2000-meter mark and 97 km await the participants of the "la cuorta". After almost 27 kilometres of racing, the challenges are on the agenda in a double pack: between Forcola di Livigno after just under 42 kilometres and the Bernina Pass after a good 49 kilometres, there is only a short, rapid descent as a breather. In the fast but easy-to-ride descent towards Pontresina, the glaciers of Piz Bernina and Piz Palü flash up again and again on the left - a dream panorama for mountaineers and cyclists alike. Despite the well-developed road down from the Bernina Pass, however, the highest concentration applies, because in Bernina Suot and at the Montebello curve a rail crosses the road. The Bernina Express, which has been designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, has the right of way! Past the mountaineering village of Pontresina, the route leads through the Inn Valley down to Zernez.
