Description
The Ore Mining Passes tour starts and ends in Innerferrera in the Averse. At the beginning you walk back out of the valley to Cresta, where the long climb up to the pass da Schmorras at 2,563 m above sea level follows. After a short downhill, the Fuorcla Starlera is the second pass crossing of the tour. The positive altitude meters are done! The subsequent descent through Val Starlera is pure enjoyment and makes trail running's hearts beat faster.
Historic mining in the Schams, Ferrera Valley and the Rhine Forest was once of great importance for the region. In the Hinterrhein area, ore was mined at 24 known locations. Parts of these mining areas are now located in the catchment area of the Beverin Nature Park.
