On a trail, there are all kinds of things in the way. Why are we mountain bikers attracted so much by obstacles? To find out, we travelled to the Engadine, to ride Fuorcla Minor.

Description

The tour starts in Pontresina with the ascent towards the Bernina Pass. Continue along the eastern side of the valley until you reach the Montebello curve and follow the main road until you reach a bridge on the right. Now we go on trails to Bernina Suot and from here into the ascent through the wonderful Val da Fain. This leads to the alp La Stretta on a gravel road, then on a trail to the pass La Stretta. Here you are already in Italy and could ride down to Livigno. However, we take the way over to Forcola the Livigno. This is very demanding, sometimes exposed, and many have to push the bike again and again – especially in the first half of the section. Then the path becomes more flowy and leads down to Forcola di Livigno. Back on Swiss soil you climb up to Fuorcla Minor on the well developed trail, fit mountain bikers master this ascent completely in the saddle. Here you are in a wonderfully high alpine region and could descend the technically demanding trail through the Val Minor. We follow the signposted mountain bike route to the Bernina Pass and from here we take the well-known and signposted mountain bike trail through Val Bernina to Morteratsch. On the gravel road along the railway line, we finally roll back to Pontresina.

Geheimtipp

The bike tour is easier to ride in a counter-direction (fewer carrying passages).
