Description

Often, one only hikes across the famous Greina or through the even more famous Rhine Gorge. On this multi-day tour, you will experience both natural phenomena—from the top to the very bottom.

The journey begins with a scenic bus ride from Rabius-Surrein train station to Val Sumvitg. After an hour of walking, the climb begins towards your first overnight stop at the Terrihütte.

The second day starts with crossing the "Punt la Greina" suspension bridge. Once you've crossed it, the hike continues up to the Diesrut Pass, where you'll be treated to an amazing view of the famous Greina high plateau. Afterward, you descend to Puzzatsch, where you can either take the bus alpin to Vrin or walk the one-hour footpath to Vrin or Sogn Giusep, your next overnight destination.

The third day is dominated by the ascent to Péz Sezner and the renowned ridge hike to Piz Mundaun—one of the best panoramic spots in the Surselva. From here, you can either take the cable car down to Cuolm Sura or hike there in about an hour. Your simple hotel room awaits you at the destination.

The fourth day begins with the descent to Ilanz, the first town on the Rhine. This section can be completed by postbus from Surcuolm. From Ilanz, the well-known hiking trail takes you deeper into the Rhine Gorge, where you'll stand beneath towering sandstone cliffs up to 300 meters high. The RhB (Rhaetian Railway) will then take you back to the starting point in Rabius-Surrein.

Geheimtipp

For those who prefer a more relaxed experience, the tour can be shortened with the use of the bus alpin (Puzzatsch-Vrin), the cable car (Piz Mundaun-Cuolm Sura), and the postbus (Surcuolm-Ilanz). For those who only want to hike the heart of the Rhine Gorge on the last day, they can take the train from Ilanz to Valendas-Sagogn and then walk for about 1.5 hours to the tour’s endpoint in Versam.

Sicherheitshinweis

The tour should not be undertaken in uncertain weather conditions. Weather changes are frequent in the mountains. If a rain front or similar is approaching during the hike, you should turn back in good time.
