Isla Sut Bike

It's an after-work ride, a family outing or simply a small and fine bike tour to the young Rhine. This tour can be ridden early in spring or into late autumn - often also in winter.

From the train station in Ilanz, the first town on the young Rhine, the bike route leads across the meadows and fields above Castrisch. Easy gravel roads and short single trails that can be ridden smoothly lead you towards the Rhine. Under the railway line and continue along a short stretch of hiking trail along the Rhine, to the Isla Sut (nature reserve) at the entrance to the Rhine Gorge. There is a fireplace and a surprisingly large sandy beach right by the water. During a rest on the peninsula on the banks of the Rhine, you can enjoy the picnic in particular. Strengthened, it goes a little uphill to Castrisch. The historic village centre with the typical fountain is under heritage protection and is worth a stop. In the attic of the church lives a protected bat colony.

Rolling out on dirt roads and at the very end a short stretch of easy single trail round off this tour perfectly.

The tour can be ridden in both directions. However, it offers more driving pleasure in an anti-clockwise direction.

It is tempting to ride even more trail sections on the hiking trail along the Rhine Gorge. However, due to the high frequency of hikers, we only recommend driving before 9 a.m. and after 4 p.m.
