Jubilee Route: 1250th Anniversary Flums, Mels, Sargans

From the Splee Chapel Sargans, the path leads via Sargans Castle along the winegrowers' path to Heiligkreuz. Here it continues to the Hagerbach test tunnel. A restaurant or the meeting place with a fireplace invite you to linger. The hike then continues in the direction of Flums, with beautiful views of the valley, the Flumserberge, the Ragnatscherbach waterfall and the Churfirsten. Via Hochwiesen, the trail then leads to the end point at Flums train station.

Along the way, there are 15 panels with information about the history of the area. These plaques were designed by school classes for the 1250th anniversary. They contain interesting facts about the floods in Flums and Mels, Pfäfers Abbey, the Rhaeto-Romanic language, the names of places and fields, Nidberg Castle, the County of Sargans, the will of Bishop Tello, the Mels Monastery, Gonzenbergwerk or the town of Sargans.

The trail can also start at Flums train station and ends at the Splee Chapel in Sargans. From there, it's only a five-minute walk to the train station. The whole hike is on the southern slope and therefore offers good weather conditions.
