Description

We “roll in” on the road towards Vals and follow the signpost to Val Lumnezia after about ten kilometers. The picturesque village of Vrin lies at the back of the valley. It was awarded the Wakker Prize in 1998 and in 2010 was honored with a “European Village Renewal Award for holistic, sustainable and motto-oriented village development of outstanding quality”.

At the village bakery, we fortify ourselves for the 600 meters of ascent ahead. The ascent on mostly gravel and concrete roads to Alp Nova, which lies over 2000 meters above sea level, flies by thanks to the exciting single trail and a wooden pedestrian bridge.

The rewards for the exertions of the ascent are the peace and quiet and the views of the surrounding mountains. We treat ourselves to further refreshment for the descent on the sun terrace in the Wali mountain restaurant, in the Maiensässrestaurant Waschchrüt or, in midsummer, on the Stavonas Alp. Because the fast hard surface and gravel roads to the starting point in Ilanz require full concentration once again.

At Silgin, between Surcasti and Vrin, there is an impressive suspension bridge. If you wish, follow the hiking signposts and bike route 222 in Silgin and ride up the steep but easy single trail and over the suspension bridge.

The tour should not be undertaken in uncertain weather conditions. Weather changes are frequent in the mountains. If a rain front or similar is approaching during the hike, you should turn back in good time.
