Description
A varied hike along a section of the old path over the Lukmanier Pass following in the footsteps of our forefathers. The numerous restaurants dotted along the route mean that you can travel light. Starting from the Acla da Fontauna stop on the Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn railway line, follow the trail flanked by old stone walls that leads to Sontga Gada Church. The church, which can be seen for quite some distance, was built around 1100 and is a reminder of the Saracen invasion. An easy path leads down to the Rhine, where you'll find a lovely barbecue spot on the river bank. Then comes the steep ascent to Mompé Medel. Beyond the village, you will continue to find traces of the old mule track which leads high up above the Medelser-Rhine gorge to Curaglia. It wasn't until the end of the 18th century and the discovery of gunpowder that a suitable path could be blasted through the gorge, making the freight route via Mompé Medel redundant. From Curaglia, the post bus takes you back to Disentis.
Geheimtipp
We recommend making a detour to the village of Mutschnengia, where there is a fascinating suspension bridge that spans the Mutschnengia Valley and a restaurant with a sun terrace.
Sicherheitshinweis
Fairtrail: Hikers partly share the trail with the mountain bikers.
