Description
We start the hike at the Palfries mountain station. With the Palfriesbahn, we have previously overcome around 1,250 metres in altitude in just 12 minutes. The train travels over an impressive waterfall (Ragnatscher Bach) and takes us up to the Palfries plateau.
From the mountain station we walk along the paved road to the Palfries mountain inn. The path turns right at the car park and runs steadily uphill towards Alvier. The hiking trail turns left at both "In de Stei" and "Mürli". We now hike slightly downhill in the direction of the Stralrüfi mountain restaurant. Here we can expect an impressive panorama of the surrounding mountain peaks and Lake Walen. The one-hour walk back to the mountain station leads along a dirt road that is suitable for wheelchairs and strollers.
Geheimtipp
On the way back from the mountain restaurant Stralrüfi towards the mountain station, we find the oldest residential building from the Walser era at the Althaus on Hinderpalfris. The dendrochronological examination has shown that the building was built in 1409 or 1410. The historic building can be visited freely (key depot in the Berggasthaus Palfries).
Ausrüstung
Daytime hiking backpack (approx. 20 litres) with rain cover, sturdy and comfortable footwear, weather-adapted and durable clothing in the multi-layer principle, if necessary telescopic poles, sun and rain protection, provisions and drinking water, first aid kit, pocket knife, mobile phone, possibly headlamp, map material
Directions
From the mountain station we hike over a length of 500 meters on the asphalted alpine road to the mountain inn Palfries. Immediately after the gravel parking lot, we take the mountain path to the right towards Alvier. After about half an hour we are "in de Stei", where we continue on the left. On the hike to the "Mürli" we can see the mountain spring with the most diverse and beautiful alpine flowers. There we turn left and walk more or less along the dry stone wall at the beginning. After about half an hour we reach the mountain restaurant Stralrüfi. The way back to the mountain station is docked and leads over the gravel dirt road to the parking lot, where we branched off at the beginning of the hike. The mountain station can be reached in a quarter of an hour, calculated from the mountain inn Palfries.
