Description

Start at the parking lot below the Muottas Muragl cable car. On a beautiful path through larch and pine forest it goes up towards Alp Muragl and further into Val Muragl. In the middle of the valley it goes right steeply up to the Segantinihütte. Past the hut on the Ibex Trail to Val Languard. There follows the last strenuous ascent up to the Georgyhütte. The view from the hut terrace to the Bernina massif is phenomenal (the weather must of course be right).

The way back can be done on the same way, or at the junction Steinbockweg go straight ahead to Alp Languard. There you can also take the double chairlift to Pontresina. From Pontresina along the slope back to the parking lot at the Muottas Muragl funicular. The descent via the path further above on the Lower Schafberg is also another option.

Geheimtipp

The best place to stay is at the Georgyhütte (very friendly and helpful hut team) just below the summit, and to climb to the summit at sunrise. When the weather is nice, it is a unique view, especially to the Bernina massif.

Ausrüstung

Good mountain boots, headlamp for sunrise.

Directions

Mostly good and easy hiking trails with enough information boards. The ascent from the Georgyhütte to the Piz Languard requires sure-footedness and a head for heights. Protection on the summit ascent partly with wire ropes.

Directions

Parking

Small free parking lot below the parking lots of the funicular, which are only available for the users of the mountain railway.
