An addictive pleasure tour on the Lukmanier Pass.
Details
Description
A strong wind is blowing at Hospezi Sontga Maria, as is almost always the case here. But as soon as we reach some height and the broad ridge of the ascent, it gets better. We are in a multilingual corner and not travelling alone. Sometimes we greet each other with Grüezi, Bien di or Buongiorno! From mid-February, however, we may come across black grouse mating, so it's best to keep as inconspicuous as possible. We reach the winter summit in just a few hairpin bends and now have a view of Val Piora as far as Lake Ritom. To the south, the Rheinwaldhorn beckons, to the north the Tödi and the Oberalpstock. Fantastico!
Descent options:
Option 1: Via the eastern slopes to Alpe di Croce as far as the pass road.
Option 2: Along the ascent track over the broad ridge. Recommended in unfavourable avalanche conditions.
Variant 3: In a northerly direction via Ovi dell'uomo to Val Termine. Good spring variant. The skins must be fitted again at the lake.
Tip: As the Lukmanier Pass is not accessible by public transport in winter, an on-call bus service is available on request:
