Von Sils i.D. zur Burganlage Hohen Rätien und zu den Felszeichnungen Carschenna

The hike starts in Sils i.D. At the village church, take the historic mule track, which leads below the walls of Ehrenfels Castle up to High Raetia at 948 m above sea level.

The settlement plateau of the High Raetia served as a waystation for traders on their arduous journey through the Viamala Gorge and over the Splügen Pass to the south.

The carefully restored fortified church is located on a rocky plateau high above the entrance to the Viamala Gorge and houses an early Christian baptismal font from the 4th/5th century as a special treasure.

Back to the incision at the castle hill, follow the road through the forest and across the meadows to Crap Carschenna (1,122 m). Enjoy the view over the Domleschg and the Heinzenberg. On the edge of the terrain, about 100 m to the north, you will find mysterious rock carvings of Carschenna, which were only discovered in 1965. The symbols carved into the stone probably date back to the Bronze Age (approx. 1800 BC): circles, spirals, bowls, horses with riders and hem loads - a fascinating encounter with signs that are difficult to interpret.

Downhill in an easterly direction along a leisurely road to Campi (castle complex) and via the forest path to Sils i.D.
