Auf der spektakulären hölzernen Hängebrücke
Around 1270, the Walser people migrated from the Valais, Pomatt and Gurin over the glacial landscape of Passo del S. Bernardino to Hinterrhein. The appearance of the village is reminiscent of the times of mule-trains and waggoners.

Description

The rock faces in the Viamala Gorge rise up to 300 metres from the Hinterrhein rushing deep below. In some places, the gorge is only a few metres wide. However, it's not just the famous gorge itself, but also two spectacular suspension bridges on the scenically impressive route along the Via Spluga, a historic mule track from Thusis to Chiavenna, that will amaze you: the almost 60 metre long Traversinersteg made of wood and steel and the 40 metre long Punt da Saransuns made of steel and granite.

Geheimtipp

The Roffla Gorge is well worth a visit at the end of the stage! A rock gallery leads directly from the hotel into the gorge to an impressive waterfall.

Sicherheitshinweis

No technical difficulties. When wet, the path can be a little slippery in places.

Ausrüstung

Normal mountain hiking equipment.

Directions

From Thusis railway station (883 m), take Marktwiesenstrasse and Compognastrasse out of town to the roundabout. Continue straight on here until the junction with Viamalaweg. Immediately after crossing the Rhine and the motorway, the narrow path towards the Hohen Rätien castle begins. If you wish, you can take the detour to the castle. Otherwise, follow the forest road southwards. After approx. 500 metres, turn right onto the narrow path. This leads over the Traversinersteg in the direction of the Viamala gorge. At the Viamala kiosk, take a short section along the road. Then follow the footpath branching off to the left over the Punt da Saransuns and the Cultira Dafora hill to Reischen. From here, take the road to Zillis (945 m).

From Zillis, take the bus to the Hotel Rofflaschlucht.
