Ruinen Gonda: Lawinenunterstände
The hike leads from the car-free Schellen-Ursli village of Guarda to the gateway to the Swiss National Park at Zernez. The trail runs south along the Inn River across the valley floor and over wooded slopes. Ornate churches, beautiful wooden bridges, mossy rocks, and icy caves tell of the history of the Lower Engadine.

Description

This stage brings us back to the valley floor of the Lower Engadine, where we will get to know the shady side of the valley today after the sun terraces of the previous day, in the literal sense. We walk along the Inn to Zernez. Since pilgrims have a lot to think about, here is a suggestion for this stage: the Inn, here still young, slim, lively and dynamic, still has its long journey of life ahead of it. It will gradually become calmer and wider, and will later unite with the Danube in Passau, where both will find peace together at the end of their journey in the Black Sea ...
The stage town of Zernez is a hub for travellers in this area. Here the axes from the Upper Engadine come together with those from South Tyrol via the Ofen Pass as well as down the valley with the Lower Engadine, the Flüela northwards to the rest of Switzerland and from the Lower Engadine with the Tyrol. A stopover, then, to meet people from different areas, and then probably continue in different directions.

Geheimtipp

The motorized traffic (incl. Postbus) from Müstair to Zernez leads on a shorter route over the Ofenpass, but we would have missed a lot.
