Description

In St. Antönien, the first 600 metres of altitude difference start first on a small road, then on an increasingly narrow alpine path. During the high summer season, however, these first metres of altitude up to the Bärgli can be easily mastered by alpine bus . Then it becomes a bit flatter and a wonderful panorama of the Schijenflue opens up. It is worth making a short detour to Lake Carchina before walking on a panoramic trail to the Carschinahütte SAC. Follow the Prättigau High Trail, which winds its way up and down under the Drusenfluh. The highlight of the tour is the transition to Austria through the Swiss Gate. A spectacular path leads through a small gap between the rock walls. Afterwards, the terrain becomes gentler again and the trail over the Verajoch offers every trail runner pure pleasure. Before the Lünersee turn left and pass the border at Cavelljoch. Back on Swiss soil, you come across the Prättigau High Trail, which you follow to the Gostrosa. After a short section on a gravel road, turn left at Vordersäss onto a partly technical, lonely path. This leads mostly uphill to the Luderer Egg and then crosses the southwest flank of the Sassauna. The last descent to the Eggli is a worthy end to the tour.

About the author: 32-year-old Stephan Hugenschmidt is the winner and course record holder of the Eiger Ultra and Zugspitz Ultratrail. Stephan lives in Schiers and knows the trails in Prättigau like the back of his hand. He particularly loves in Prättigau that the trails are not overcrowded and you can be on the road for hours in an intact nature.
