Über den Passo della Tegiola

It is a worthwhile route, but it is very long, especially downhill. The ascent runs along the flank of the Bregaglia valley, initially through forest, alternating with the serene clearings of the Monti di Villa. Further up, you come to the alpine pastures of Val Casnaggina, whose stream is the boundary line. The path over the pass, on the other hand, descends through the Val Codera, which you follow in the flat valley floor. Along the way, you will come across the villages of Bresciadega and Codera: they are the two main towns of the valley, inhabited almost all year round. You can do the whole hike in one day, or you can choose to stay at Rifugio Brasca or other accommodations in Val Codera.

From Canete, walk about a hundred metres along the agricultural and forestry road and then turn right onto the mule track that leads to the meadow terrace of Scalotta (883 m). At the junction, continue on the left and cross the Vertura stream on the bridge. In this section you cross the new road that leads up to the Monti di Villa several times, but it can only be used with a driving permit from the municipality.
Continuing uphill, you pass the Tabiadascio and Campaccio mountain pastures one after the other until you reach the Roccolo, located at the edge of a meadow terrace at the western end of the Laghetti (1243 m). The path does not lead to this mountain pasture, but diagonally along the right side of a depression; later you enter the forest, from which you come out again at Foppate (1378 m). Once you arrive at the tree line on a mountain meadow, you continue on footpaths, along the gravel bed of a rivulet and then up through a valley cut full of dense alder bushes.
Above this you reach the open slopes of the high Val Casnaggina. Gradually turning left over stony terrain, you aim for a scree channel that descends from the Bocchetta della Teggiola. If possible, climb it in the middle and reach the Bocchetta della Tegiola at an altitude of 2490 m.

On the Val Codera side, descend through a steep scree slope and head to the middle of a depression between the ridges that descend from Pizzo dei Vanni. On this plateau you can see the remains of the walls of the customs post, which was continuously occupied until about the fifties (an anti-smuggling measure). Below, descend along steep grassy slopes until you reach the junction with the path to the Pedroni-Del Pra bivouac. You climb further and further down the valley on a good path and thus come to the huts of Alp Sivigia (1939 m).
From here, continue along the path that is embedded in a considerable rock step. At its foot it goes out for a while through the flat valley, in places along the left edge of the stream bed. Through a beautiful forest you come to the Rifugio Brasca (1304 m). A road leads to the hamlet of Bresciadega (1241 m) and then continues fairly flat to Codera (825 m). The last stretch is descended along the mule track with steps to Novate Mezzola. Back to the starting point, take the train to Chiavenna and the rest of the way by bus.
