Description
Follow the mountain bike signs to the beginning of Val da Fain. The Val da Fain is very scenic and easy to drive. If you are technically adept or don't mind wearing the bike from time to time, you will continue to ride. For the others, I recommend driving the Val da Fain back again.
The section between La Stretta and Forcla di Livigno is first steeply up the mountain and then steeply sloping on the valley side, so that as a mediocre rider I often had to push/carry the bike for safety reasons. For experienced bikers, this should not be a problem. Alternatively, you can take the apparently very steep path directly into the valley and ride up on the bike path at the bottom, but with this variant you lose many meters of altitude.
After Forcla di Livigno follows the newly made bike path towards the Bernina Pass. It is passable in both directions. The Val Minor is very beautiful, but technically difficult with larger stones on the way. Too much for me - the top third I pushed/carried the bike most of the time. For this you will be rewarded further down with super flowy routes over alpine meadows! For less experienced bikers, I recommend riding up to the pass and skipping the Val Minor.
After Pontresina you can ride again on the bike path or whizz down the main road like us.
Conclusion: Very scenic, but with sometimes difficult sections. In particular, the Val Minor is not suitable for average bikers in the upper range.
