Poschiavo - San Romerio - Viano

At high altitudes, the air of Valposchiao on sunny days is often blindingly clear. It is the light of the south that makes the landscape shine. San Romerio lies on a promontory overlooking Lake Poschiavo. The benches overlooking the lake invite you to take a break; in the adjacent restaurant you can refuel with food and drinks. This lovely place can be reached by a long hike. The climb is initially easy, then it becomes steeper and steeper and winds through spruce and larch forests. Above the woods, the view suddenly opens onto the Valposchiavo and the nearby Valtellina. During the descent to the village of Viano you can enjoy beautiful views. Until the 70s Viano was an important place for the smuggling of sugar, coffee and tobacco.

The innkeeper of Ristoro San Romerio sells his own cheese and serves salads and vegetables grown in his garden.

The route is marked as a mountain path (white-red-white, difficulty level T2). The starting point is Poschiavo. On secondary roads and gravel paths you head towards Saltaplana. From here continue on narrow forest roads in the direction of Val da Terman until you reach San Romerio. The descent to Piaz and Predasc winds mainly on dirt roads and paths. From Viano there is a bus to Brusio (reservation required).
