Description
This excursion starts right from an amazing vantage point. With your eyes on the Palü glacier and the Valposchiavo up to the Bergamo Alps, you face the descent towards Cavaglia.
From the station take the path that goes down to the right. The path plunges into a forest of larch and stone pines crossing 2 times the spectacular route of the Rhaetian Railway train. After the second intersection of the tracks, turn right and proceed to the Palü power plant where, through a forced pipeline, the water of the White Lake arrives to be swirled for the first time.
Descend to the Lagh da Palü, a basin with a typical glacial color at the foot of the homonymous Piz. The place is so quiet that you willingly stop to make a stop to recover from the descent. Those seeking relief even for the taste buds, can taste the local specialties at the Agriturismo Palü.
Once you leave the lake take the path on the right and after a last descent you pass in front of the Cavaglia power plant, where the water is swirled for the second time.
Before resuming the train we recommend making a stop at the Glacier Garden to visit the extraordinary Marmitte dei Giganti and the new route through the Orrido di Cavaglia.
Geheimtipp
Alp Grüm can only be reached by train or on foot.
Alternative route if you prefer a less frequented route than the Alp Grüm - Stablini - Cavaglia trail, traveled by many hikers and bikers.
The Alp Grüm - Cavaglia section is part of the Repower Ecosentiero that begins in Ospizio Bernina and ends in Cavaglia, equipped with information boards on the production of electricity, green energy, nature, history and technology.
In Cavaglia you can pay a visit to the Glacier Garden. Do not miss a trip to the Orrido di Cavaglia, descending into the gorge to admire the caves carved into the rock.
