Suggested Itinerary
Day 1: Maienfeld
First stop: the Heidi village in Maienfeld, the home of the famous literary character Heidi. Visitors are greeted here by the bleating of goats and the clucking of chickens. You take a glimpse into Heidi’s world when walking from hut to hut. You can then relax in the 36.5-degree thermal water at the Tamina Therme in Bad Ragaz.

Day 2: Maienfeld–Zernez
You take the Flüela Pass into the Lower Engadine – following a short stop at the Hospiz at the top of the pass. In the pretty Engadine mountain village of Susch lies Susch Museum, which displays modern art relating to the Engadine. Those who want to prepare for the national park hike on the following day will learn about the flora and fauna of the nature protection area at the National Park Centre in Zernez.

Day 3: Zernez
The Val Trupchun in the Swiss National Park is an Eldorado for animal observers. Whether ibexes, red deer, chamois, marmots or bearded vultures – the chances of seeing the “Big 5” of the Alps are best in the idyllic side valley. The four-hour circular hike in the Val Trupchun starting and ending in S-chanf leads you through mixed forests, over bridges and past two rest areas.

Day 4: Zernez–Bergün
A popular mountain for excursions, Diavolezza near Pontresina stands out with its view of the Bernina Range. This includes Piz Bernina, the only mountain higher than 4,000 m in Graubünden. Via the Albula Pass – one of the most beautiful Alpine passes in Europe – you head back to Bergün, where visitors can find out all about the exciting history of the Graubünden railway at the railway museum.

Day 5: Bergün–Bellinzona
One village further, in Filisur, and you’ll reach the next highlight with the Landwasser Viaduct. Three viewing platforms offer the best view of the impressive Rhaetian Railway structure. The San Bernardino Pass takes you to the south of Graubünden. In the heart of the untamed Val Mesolcina landscape: 50 grottos in the Cama mountain village. In three of them, you can take some refreshment with outstanding traditional dishes before continuing your journey to Bellinzona.

Day 6: Bellinzona–Flims
Visitors are immersed in the age of chivalry in the castles of Bellinzona with their crenelated walls, towers and huge gates. The subsequent journey over the Gotthard Pass and the adventurous Tremola on the south side is equally spectacular. Back in Graubünden, the world’s longest treetop walk awaits in Laax.

Day 7: Journey Home
Enjoy an incredible view one more time before heading home: you can do this at the «Il Spir» viewing platform in Flims. This gives you a panoramic view of the Rhine Gorge – one of Graubünden’s most spectacular landscapes. It’s a good two-hour hike from Flims Waldhaus to «Il Spir» and back.
