The ruins of the four-storey residential tower are a striking eye-catcher and a landmark of Paspels.
Description
The castle, which was probably built at the end of the 12th century, was originally the seat of a small manor that grew out of the Paspels estate and appears in the possession of the Lords of Vaz in the 13th century. The castle itself is first mentioned in a document in 1285. After the Vaz family died out in the male line, it passed with the lordship to the Werdenberg-Sargans family.
Alt-Süns was demolished in the Schams feud of 1451 and subsequently rebuilt; however, it was probably already in ruins at the beginning of the 16th century. Today, the ruins of a four-storey residential tower with a ring still stand. The entrance was on the second floor, the bays are on the third and fourth floors.
