Description
History
As the title St. Florinus zu Seth does not appear in either the Carolingian Urbarium or the Pfäverser Rodeln, it is not certain whether St. Luzius or St. Florinus is the oldest church in Siat. The first documentary evidence of St. Florinus is therefore a deed dated May 15, 1481. The Gothic chapel is described in the visitation protocol of 1643. The medieval church was replaced by a new building consecrated on September 21, 1744. The old tower initially remained and was given a Baroque addition. In 1924, however, it had to be demolished due to dilapidation and rebuilt a little further to the east.
Description of the building
The church is an east-facing, uniformly Baroque structure, consisting of a three-bay nave and a two-bay, flat-closed choir. The chancel and nave are of equal height and unite to create an open spatial effect. The lighting under the main cornice is provided by lancet windows and oculi. The south wall of the old tower still exists. The new tower was built in 1924.Stucco decorates the pilasters and the vault in the choir. The ornamentation illustrates the transition from Régence to Rococo.
Furnishings
The high altar (made of wood) was made by Placy Schmid based on the altar in Vals. Gilded by Joh. Trubmann in 1758. The side altars are designed as pendants. Unadorned baptismal font. Polygonal pulpit, dated 1650.Worship objects: Baroque chalice, around 1670, monstrance (with cross), around 1690, casula made of green, silver-brocaded French silk damask, 18th century.Bells: Rüetschi AG, Aarau 1925 and Gebr. Theus Felsberg, 1880.The former late Gothic high altar from Siat now stands, with new parts added, in Frankfurt Cathedral.
