Church Sogn Stiafen, Cumbel

Description
The church is open daily from 09:00 - 17:00.
The Sogn Stiafen church was built at the beginning of the 16th century. It was rebuilt and enlarged as early as 1689. It has a three-bay nave with two side chapels built in 1709 and a flat closed choir. The side chapels only reach as far as the main cornice. The side altars date from between 1710 and 1720 and the bells were made by Grassmayr in the 18th century.
In 1595, the itinerant painter Hans Ardüser created the ten-part picture cycle on the north wall of the church about the life of Mary. To the left of the pulpit are: 1. the Assumption into Heaven 2. the Annunciation of the Archangel Gabriel 3. the Nativity 4. the Adoration by the Three Wise Men 5. the 12-year-old Jesus in the Temple 6. the Resurrection of Christ and 7. the Outpouring of the Holy Spirit. To the right of the pulpit are 8 Mary visiting Elizabeth and 9 Mary's coronation in heaven. The apostles Peter, Andrew and Paul follow in the second row. 10.
The view into the choir with the three altars (5), which were created at the beginning of the 18th century, offers pure Baroque pleasure. The curved pediment of the main altar with God the Father and the angels is a special feature.
The two-storey ossuary in the cemetery shows the Mother of God between St. Stephen and St. Maurice; purgatory is depicted below.
