Description
After a town fire in 1483, a new building was started and completed in 1518. After the disputation in 1526 between clergymen of the Catholic Church and J. Comander and other representatives of the Reformation in St. Margaret's Church, Ilanz converted to the Reformed faith and St. Margaret's Church was also reformed.
The late Gothic complex consisting of the rectangular nave and the choir is a unique work of art with various subdivided fields and magnificent paintings. The motifs depict flowers, vines, fruit and early Renaissance motifs, all of which reflect the joy of life. In the center are symbols of the four evangelists with their names. The Dance of Death is depicted in a special form. Most of these paintings were rediscovered and restored under the whitewashed walls in 1934.
