Paxmal
The Peace Monument with a special background

Description

With the Paxmal, the Peace Monument, whose basic idea is peace for all, Karl Bickel creates a place of inner contemplation, of meditation on man, his goals and his ways of life.
The artist was born in Zurich-Hirslanden in 1886 and lost his father at the age of four. 1900 to 1904 he did an apprenticeship as a lithographer and cliché draughtsman in the Paul Bleuer studio. In 1908 he opens his own graphic studio at the graphic arts institute Hüttner. Until 1912 he produced letterheads, business recommendation cards and fashion catalogues. 1913 Bickel falls ill with tuberculosis and stays in Walenstadtberg for over a year for a cure. Here are the visions that he wants to implement in the form of a stamp of peace as he recovers. In 1924 he begins the 25-year construction of the Paxmal and meets the St. Gallerin Berta Albrecht, whom he marries in 1926. His son Karl was born in 1927. Bickel dies at the age of 96 on Schrina-Hochrugg in 1982.
The Paxmal is a highly interesting place of wonder. Energetically it is not enough to the place of power. Enjoy the space between the monumental Churfirsten and Lake Walen, take a look at the work of art and its statements and let your soul fly when the sky is reflected in the water.
The Paxmal is open from spring to autumn.
