Sunnibergbrücke

The Sunniberg Bridge, which is 525 metres long and curved within a radius of 500 metres, is a late work by the great bridge builder Christian Menn. The bridge is part of the Klosters bypass and has been awarded and appreciated worldwide.

The Sunniberg Bridge is a so-called cable-stayed bridge and consists of four slightly outwardly curved pillars - a world first. Normally, the carriageway of a cable bridge hangs deep below the top of the pylons on a steep, radial cable compartment. Here it is located at a height of sixty meters in the upper quarter of the pillars. The unusual combination of a raised roadway with flat cables makes the building delicate and transparent: only a narrow line cuts the landscape.

Dynamic and part of the landscape

But the bridge is not only an experience from a distance, the crossing is also impressive: the parallel cable harps span a permeable driving space. The curve provides dynamism and opens up new perspectives. Despite the valley crossing, the Sunniberg Bridge manages the balancing act between subordination to the landscape and independence as a landmark of civil engineering.
