A common thread running through the Killian Duo's concert programme "Passion in Folk Ton" is the fascination for classical music inspired by folk songs and dances. They are enthusiastic about compositions through which the lively musical folk heritage shines through.

Schumann loved the small form of chamber music, the character pieces. In them he found the tonal expression of simplicity and clarity.
Inspired by the tradition of folk songs and the strong musicality that lived in the common people, and which was also evident in the popular folk dances, Schumann created his "Pieces in Folk Tone": five character movements that reveal deep spiritual insights.

The first movement of the Viola Sonata in B flat major by Henri Vieuxtemps combines deep passion, capricious phrases, grandiose gestures and heartfelt melodies. He was very friends with Robert Schumann and shared his passion in deep musicality.

And what a strong experience opens up for the listener in the Rhapsody from the Suite hébraïque by Ernest Bloch! It is the strongest expression and dramatic narrative of the mood of the soul of the Hebrew people, poured into a musically rhapsodic ballad.

Béla Bartók's compositional work is inspired by a source of musical energy that is in the immediate folk tradition: folk songs and folk dances from Hungary, Romania and other surrounding Eastern peoples. On many trips to rural areas, Bartók was in search of the old traditional folk songs that accompanied the everyday life and festivals of these ethnic groups. He has collected, written down and archived countless of them.

Béla Bartók's Romanian Folk Dance Melodies from Hungary can directly experience the common roots of the musical currents and the metamorphosis of folk music through the encounter with the music of the 20th century.
They complete the round dance of this concert programme "Passion in the Folk Sound".
