"Father Politics" is a research project by the Company MEK from Basel under the direction of the Swiss choreographer Muhammed Kaltuk. For the son of a Turkish politician, the current political climate has a direct impact on our lives internationally, but also in Switzerland. In his new work, Muhammed Kaltuk focuses on the emotionalization of politics. He is interested in circumscribed, twisted and changed truths, and together with his dance company he researches the consequences of active opinion-making, which he also locates in Switzerland. Seemingly everywhere in the world, politics is no longer defined by content, but by personalities and the size of the advertising budget.

In "Father Politics", the young multinational ensemble of six dancers tells the story of powerlessness in the face of fathers' politics in a personal and figurative sense on the basis of their own biographies and from a post-migrant perspective. "Father Politics" is a template for the paralyzing insecurity that befalls people when they do not feel represented in society, and for the audacity of some fatherly politicians who allow themselves to live out their hunger for power more and more openly. The play stands for the reality of many people who cannot connect socially and personally because they are perceived as "threatening strangers". It is important to Muhammed Kaltuk and his company MEK to counter this development and to take a clear stance. They are concerned with energies that arise when you set something in motion together. In the group, the power and energy of the joint appearance are bundled and strengthen the individual in his or her courage to change.

Choreographer Muhammed Kaltuk (*1990) founded the independent dance company MEK in Basel in 2017. The company develops productions in the field of tension between social dance, contemporary dance, hip-hop culture and traditional dance. Kaltuk has worked as a freelance choreographer at Theater Basel, Theater Luzern, Theater St. Gallen, Theater der jungen Welt Leipzig and in Zwickau. He has received several awards for his work.
