Lake Sils is a land of cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, but a pleasant, slightly more challenging alternative can be found in this route which, starting from Capolago, climbs the north side of the valley halfway up the hill and touches the pastures of Blaunca and Grevasalvas, before descending back into the valley and reaching Sils, ideally at the bus stop, to return to the starting point.

Description

Directly from the Capolago car park, the path starts (with signs for Grevasalvas, Passo del Lunghin and others) which in a few tens of minutes leads us to gain the dominion of the valley. We continue for a while in a westerly direction but be careful, because at a rocky hillock the winter road branches off to the right (on the left we climb to the Lunghin Pass or return to Maloggia) and between some rocks it leads us uphill to gain a modest flat expanse upstream of the rocky spurs.

We follow the path more or less in the middle of the plain and in a few minutes we arrive behind the small village of Blaunca. From here you can climb to the Lunghin pass once again or even to the Grevasalvas Pass (very challenging and at high risk of avalanches) or continue eastwards, in the direction of the already evident Grevasalvas pasture.

With a couple of hairpin bends we lose a little altitude and within half an hour we are at the second destination. This mountain pasture is larger than the first, but just as picturesque, you will also find a fountain (this year defrosted on December 26th...).

We pass Grevasalvas and take the path that climbs to the base of the gloomy spur of rock a little further east, we go around it from below and cross a modest passage that puts us in view of Sils.

From here a long and gentle descent into the woods takes us to the small bridge and acts as a gateway to the Engadine village.

There is a bus stop here or if you want you can continue along the walking path to the one in the center.
