Description

We carry the snowshoes a short distance along the winter hiking trail to the Sontga Gada chapel. From here we go down to the young Rhine, where we cross the water over a historic bridge. We take the climb to Mompé Medel comfortably because it is quite steep. Once we get to the village, we briefly put on our snowshoes until we reach the La Scurslada bar. As we continue to ascend, the landscape presents itself to us as open and wide. Before the Stagias hill we share the climb with the sledders, so caution is advised. We take a break at the Academia Vivian, lean against the warm wooden wall warmed by the sun and look at what our backpack has to offer.

Downwards we follow the signs towards Mutschnengia, but we can also make our own tracks across the open field and kick up the snow under our snowshoes. We take a short detour to the panoramic restaurant of the Hotel Cuntera in Mutschnengia. Behind the last houses an interesting suspension bridge spans the small valley. With our snowshoes packed, we walk on the cleared and little-used road to Curaglia, from where the post bus takes us back to Disentis.

Geheimtipp

The Academia Vivian can be rented for events of any kind. It is suitable for private events, family celebrations as well as for theme days with schools and universities or as a retreat room for companies.

Sicherheitshinweis

The route is signposted, but those unfamiliar with the area are advised to print out the topo map of the tour and carry it with you.

Directions

The tour starts at the information board at the Disentis sports centre. We follow the signposted snowshoe trail to Mompé Medel. At the upper end of the village, the pink signs point us further, partly over open terrain and partly on a winter hiking trail to Stagias. From here we continue to follow the signs or we make our own tracks in the fresh snow until we reach the road to Curaglia. We pack up the snowshoes.
