Description
On the former access road, which is closed to motorized traffic, the ambitious tour masters the ascent into the Tamina Valley. Passing the hamlets of Balen and Gassaura, the imposing Tamina Bridge, an arched bridge with a span of 270 m, to the opposite side of the valley to Pfäfers, is astonishing. Valens is home to the rehabilitation centre, which is one of the leading rehabilitation clinics in Switzerland and specialises in the treatment of functional disorders of the locomotor apparatus and nervous system. The road leads in constant ups and downs to the catchment basin of the Mapragg reservoir, which we follow on the western shore. A varied single trail leads us on to Vättis, from where the ascent to the Gigerwald reservoir and the Walser settlement of St. Martin starts, a mysterious hamlet at the end of the Calfeisental from the 14th century. The descent is via easy hiking trails, gravel and tarred roads back to the Tamina Therme Bad Ragaz.
