Description

The start is in the historic village centre of Samedan, the main town of the Upper Engadine. After the village passage, the path begins to climb immediately. Via Cristolais, past Alp Saluver and the Marguns mountain station, you reach the Lei Alv. A Finnish railway runs around this artificial reservoir, which serves the St. Moritz altitude training centre. Then it goes on flowing trails and then over the forest and field path down to Celerina, where the first aid station is located. Through Celerina, the side of the valley is changed and it goes into the well-known Staz Forest. Passing Lake Staz and Alp Staz, you reach one of the first vantage points of the route on Muottas da Schlarigna, where the route also passes the oldest Swiss stone pine in the Upper Engadine. The following trail down towards Pontresina is very technical and requires full concentration. Back in the valley, the route leads on field paths to the valley station of the Muottas Muragl cable car. This is where the second aid station is located. This is followed by the longest ascent of the route (7.6 km / +1077m) via Muottas Muragl, probably the most beautiful vantage point in the Engadine. However, the climb does not end here, because from Muottas Muragl it continues up to Fuorcla Val Champagna, where the highest point of the race is reached at 2817 m above sea level. The route then leads through the Val Champagna, a wild valley where there are very few hikers. It is a real insider tip for trail runners. After 1100 m of descent in one go, you reach the valley floor again at Lake Gravatscha at the end of the Engadin Airport. Once at the bottom of the valley, the route goes via Isellas and the hamlet of Champesch towards La Punt. Before reaching the village, however, there is another climb through the God Chamaduoir and the Val S-chüra. Only then do you reach Chamues-ch in La Punt with the next aid station. Strengthened, it then goes back into the forest, initially leisurely up and down, before the run joins the route of the EUT 53. On a beautiful trail over Pradels, we head above the golf course towards Zuoz.

Then follows the next crisp ascent. First on the forest path, then on the trail, it goes through the God Laviners up to Munt Seja, where you are once again surprised by a breathtaking panorama. Until Lej da Prastinaun, it continues uphill. This is followed, still on the trail, the descent down to Alp Arpiglia, from where you reach the next aid station in Zuoz, La Resgia, on the alpine path. After refreshments, the route leads through the historic village centre of Zuoz, probably the most beautiful in the whole of the Upper Engadine. This is followed by the next steep climb of the day. (6.5 Km / +900m) If you take the time, you can also enjoy the great view up and down the Engadine on this section. Through the Val Müra, you finally reach the Chamanna d'Es-cha, where there is another aid station. From here, the high-altitude trail leads under the flank of Piz Kesch to Fuorcla Gualdauna, from where you can overlook the Val d'Alvra and the Albula Pass. From here, the route goes downhill for a long time to the Albula road and joins the Via Engiadina long-distance hiking trail in Arvins. The trail of the Via Engiadina leads through the God Arvins along the slope to Bever. Through the historic village centre, you reach the last large aid station at the Bever schoolhouse. Freshly strengthened, we first go to Val Bever and after the level crossing over the Albula line of the RhB we reach a flowing trail again, which leads to Muntarütsch in Samedan. This is where the ascent to Alp Muntatsch begins. From Alp Muntatsch, a relatively flat path leads to Alp Munt. Then you walk on the Padella Panorama Trail below the Piz Padella, with its unique view towards the Bernina massif. At Munt da la Bês-cha, above Celerina, you reach the highest point of the short distances. Finally, the descent into Val Saluver, to Marguns, follows. From Marguns, the last descent towards Samedan is identical to the start route from the morning, but leads to the finish in the Promulins Arena.
