Hikers also like to replace the calories they burn with a hearty gold panning steak. Panning for gold in the Rhine can be planned for another day.

Description

We start the day with a post bus ride to Curaglia. We hike down a road with little traffic to the Rein da Medel (Roman), one of the numerous tributaries of the Vorderrhein that also bear the name Rhine. We soon reach the old mule track on the other side of the valley, which leads via Mompé Medel to Disentis. The original, partly stone-lined path is still well preserved in parts. Mompé Medel means "at the foot of the mountain to Medel". The village is located on a hill from where we have a wonderful view of the monastery village of Disentis. On the steep descent to Cuflons we immerse ourselves in a gorge-like scenery. From here to Fontanivas, the Vorderrhein squeezes through a washed-out stream bed with numerous glacier potholes. Our steps become faster and faster, the camping restaurant in Fontanivas beckons with its fine cuisine. But today we're ordering a gold panning steak.

We return to Disentis by post bus.

Geheimtipp

The gold panning steak is unique: a tender piece of meat, with a delicious herb sauce and fried potatoes.

Sicherheitshinweis

Fairtrail: Hikers share sections of the path with mountain bikers.

Directions

A signposted hiking trail leads us on hiking and forest paths to the Stagias hill. The way back is partly via a medieval mule track. From Mompé Medel we hike back to Fontanivas on the same route
