Description

The trail starts in the architecturally award-winning pass village of Splügen. Where once the Walser brought their goods over the pass as muleteers with animals, the trail on the viaSpluga goes gently up to the Splügen Pass. The restored mule track offers views of the spectacular serpentines of the pass. On the Splügen Pass, 2114 m above sea level and directly on the Italian border, the path branches off to the left and leads steeply upwards, past the idyllically situated Bergseeli. From here it goes up a step in the rocky terrain to Lago Azzurro at 2428 m above sea level. Continue along the right bank of the lake until you descend to Montespluga, where you can enjoy some Italianità. Now follow the viaSpluga in the opposite direction back to Switzerland. At the old avalanche gallery, turn left and follow it to the mountain house.

After crossing the road, follow the trail along the eastern flank of the Alpetlistock in the direction of Tanazhöhe (mountain station of the ski area near Splügen). At the waypoint Bi den Trög, the path branches off to the left, down the slope into the valley basin of Piz Tambos to Tamboalp. From here you follow the alpine road, which leads down into the valley above the Tambobach. After a wooded area you come back to the pass road. From here you follow the hiking trails down into the valley to Splügen.

Geheimtipp

In Montespluga and in the Berghaus Splügenpass there are very good places to stop for refreshments.

The avalanche gallery is a historic building from 1843 that is well worth seeing. Parts of the gallery have been restored. More information.
