Description
From Ilanz (699 m above sea level) it goes on an asphalt road with a crisp incline to Ruschein (1166 m above sea level). The view from Ruschein via Ilanz into the Vals Valley is a first highlight of the route. In Ruschein you reach the Graubünden Bike Route No. 90 and traverse to Siat (1302 m above sea level). Steep ramps alternate with relaxing flat sections. In Siat, some fountains invite you to fill your water bottles. The view of the Obersaxen plateau will make you forget the burning legs. The road continues to climb to Darpagaus (1494 m above sea level) before a rapid descent into the side valley of Val da Pigniu. The ascent towards Pigniu (1300 m above sea level) and up to the Lag da Pigniu reservoir (1447 m above sea level) is easy to manage. The rock face with impressive waterfalls at the very back of the lake is so impressive that the detour to the very end of the gravel road is definitely worth it. The route now leads back on the road for only a few hundred metres before you turn right following the Graubünden Bike Route 90. On the other side of the river, a dirt road takes you first, then a short interlude through woods and meadows to Andiast (1185 m above sea level). From Andiast follow the main road to Waltsburg for a short time. The church in Waltensburg inspires with fantastic paintings and is certainly worth a stop. A gravel road with panoramic views and an impressive rock tunnel takes you to Brigels. From here we go through typical villages of the Surselva to Trun. On the Rhine route no. 2 you will get back to Ilanz.
