Description
If you are at the very back of the wintery, secluded Safiental, you will soon be surrounded by a relaxing tranquillity. The wide valley floor is framed by imposing mountains such as the Wisshorn, the Schwarzhorn and the Gelbhorn. At times you feel like you are in an amphitheatre. The cross-country ski trail starts in Thalkirch Turrahus and winds along the valley floor and through a small pine forest, which also provides shelter for deer and black grouse.
The striking equalisation basin of the Zervreila power station looks somewhat strange in this otherwise idyllic landscape. On the way, you can enjoy a beautiful view of the Walser scattered settlements that are typical of the Safiental. The view extends to the Camaner huts, which form contrasting dots in the snow like a string of pearls.
In the Turrahus exhibition stables at the start and end points, visitors learn interesting facts about the settlement of the Safiental and the wooden buildings and stables typical of the valley. You can even try your hand at covering a roof with shingles. In the nearby Turrahus mountain inn or in the Hofbeizli Gassli you can quench your hunger and thirst with fine regional delicacies.
