Description

For motorized private transport the Val da Camp is a taboo. At the beginning of the valley, near the PostBus stop, there is a prohibitory sign from which only agricultural vehicles and small Postbuses are exempt from which they manage to master the steep gravel road. Traffic on the dirt road is limited – this fact alone makes the valley a paradise for hikers.

Despite this, the locals advise against discovering the valley in this simple way as there is better. The best route in the area is a simple circular hike, which is also suitable for families with children. The starting point is Alp Camp, the terminus of the PostBus line. Due to the limited number of seats available on the PostBus, advance seat reservations are absolutely necessary.

Over the millennia, landslides have filled the valley in different places, causing mountain streams to turn into lakes behind these upheavals. Most of these can be reached via paths. A real treat is the Lagh da Saoseo. It is praised as one of the most beautiful mountain lakes in Switzerland, if not in the Alps. From a distance the water shimmers cobalt blue, but when you approach the shore it is so clear that you can almost make out every single stone on the seabed.

Although there are grill places on the shore, it is advisable to postpone the snack for a moment, as the next part of the hike consists of a fairly steep climb of 200 meters.

Initially we proceed in the woods, then above it. Finally you reach the Lagh da Viola. Above the turquoise mirror of the lake you can admire the panorama up to the southern slope of Piz Palü. The slope on the east shore of Lake Viola is quite steep, so access to the water is quite difficult. So it is worth skirting half the lake, and then relaxing on the vast flat pasture. At the mouth of the alpine stream you can play in a pleasant way, build dams and splash in the water. In an easy descent you return to Alp Camp.
