Description

It is advisable to plan an overnight stay in the SAC Zapporthütte.  This route requires high experience and alpine equipment such as crampons, touring picks, rope, etc. A ski depot is also often necessary. The route over the weapons yard is flat but long. If this is to be circumvented, a chauffeur service can be requested via a regional taxi company. Otherwise, start at the north portal of the San Bernardino Tunnel and cross the Waffenplatz following the Hinterrhein to the end of the valley. Then it goes through a small gorge until about 1960 in front of the "Höll". There follows the ascent to point 2097. Dachach you can climb directly to the Zapporthütte in safe snow conditions. Otherwise, circulate. From the hut follow the ribbon to the Hinterrhein. Then to the origin and finally to the end of the valley.
